The high-level visit included Minister of Health and Welfare Jeong Eun-kyeong, Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Ueno Kenichiro, and WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific (WPRO) Saia Ma’u Piukala. The delegation toured the hospital to witness firsthand how Korea integrates AI into advanced medical care.

Guided by Severance Hospital General Director Lee Kang-young, the delegation visited the hospital’s AI Innovation Research Center. During the tour, experts including Professors Rhee Hyung-jin, Director of the Center for Digital Health Strategy at Yonsei University Health System, Jung Yoon-bin, Deputy Director of the Information Service Center, and You Seng-chan of the Department of Biomedical Systems Informatics presented on the development of AI models and their practical applications in clinical settings.

According to the hospital, the delegation paid close attention to demonstrations of AI-based vital sign monitoring and other data-driven healthcare solutions, deepening their understanding of Korea’s technology-based medical infrastructure.

The hospital tour was organized to enhance the dignitaries’ understanding of Korea’s advanced medical landscape prior to the “18th Tripartite Health Ministers’ Meeting” held in Seoul.

The ministerial meeting, hosted by Minister Jeong at the Conrad Hotel from last Saturday to Sunday, brought together representatives from Korea, China, and Japan to discuss common public health challenges.

During the meeting, the three nations adopted a joint statement and agreed to strengthen cooperation on key agendas, including the use of AI and digital technology for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), healthy aging, and mental health.
